When you’re running a lead generation campaign that uses content marketing, you need a way to distribute that content to your potential users. Yes you’ll be posting to your blog, but you need to let people know about the awesome content you’ve created. That’s where social media comes in.
Social media not only helps by getting your content in front of people you’re connected to, but your posts also have an affect on the search engine rankings of your content.
Plus, if your connections like your content and consider it valuable they will share it to their followers as well and this is where you can really increase the number of impressions your content makes.
Here are three social media strategies that can greatly expand your content footprint and drive more leads.
1) Make Your Headline A Powerful Benefit & Make Your Content Useful
In his In his book “Ogilvy on Advertising” David Ogilvy says that ad copy with helpful information is read by 75% more people than copy that deals only with the product. This applies to the body of your article as well as the headline.
When you’re creating the content that you’re going to be distributing via social media you must focus on helping your prospect with information that they will find actionable. Save the sales pitch for much further down the sales funnel.
No one wants to share your advertisement for your product or services. They want to share content that they think others will find as helpful as they did.
So focus on the benefit to your reader with the article and the headline. That will ensure that your social media posts get traction.
2) Share With Influencers
There is no better social media traction than when someone with a lot of followers likes and shares your content. You can get the attention of social media influencers a few ways.
The first one is simple. Share an article they have written and tell the world how awesome you think that content is. But here’s the part many people forget to do, tag the author! Most advanced social media pros are using tools that monitor their mentions. And anyone worth their social media salt will act when they’re mentioned. Every time I have done this I have either gotten a thanks or some other reply. I’ve even gotten retweets using this strategy. Both of these actions will put your link in front of the influencer’s vast audience.
Plus, you’ve just made a very powerful new social media friend. That’s a huge win and you can continue to nurture that relationship for future exposure for your content.
3) Listen, Interact, Rinse, Repeat
They call it “social media” for a reason. Don’t forget to listen and interact with people. I have even taken discussions that started in social media to email and even the phone and in person meetings.
These social posts have resulted in me being quoted in articles and some much deeper business relationships.
