Creating search engine optimized content is the key component of a digital marketing plan. The good news is that you can chart huge gains in targeted traffic to your website. Done properly, you can attract your ideal prospect to your website every day.
That traffic increase will turn into hundreds of thousands of dollars in business that you will generate from your website.
We’re giving away our exact plan for search optimized content that we use for our clients. Follow these blogging guidelines and you will see increases in your search engine visibility, guaranteed.
Post Length — We recommend 600 words or more. The reason for this length is that online content needs to deliver some sort of value to your reader. Google sees longer content as more valuable. When you educate, inform and help your prospects, they’ll interact, subscribe, come back for more or further explore your website.
Target Your Content To Your Ideal Prospect — In order to deliver value to your ideal prospect, you need to know their questions and problems so that you can then help educate and inform them. We have done keyword research that will identify phrases that people search for which can indicate that they are.
Use Target Keywords — The main reason to blog is so you will have more opportunities to show up in search results. In order to show up for a certain search term, that term needs to be included your Title and in the text of your article. That term is the focus keyword. Try to use it three times in the first couple of paragraphs, but do so naturally, don’t force it.
You should also include LSI Keywords. These are Latent Semantic Indexing keywords. They are words that Google sees as related to the focus keyword. Try to use these in the text of your article or in section headers.
Include these keywords in the copy, writing naturally using synonyms, making the text read well and not sound like you are forcing the keyword into every other sentence is the key to keyword usage.
Make It Scannable — Not everyone is going to read every word so we like to make blog copy scannable. You can do this by keeping paragraphs shorter so that you don’t have huge blocks of text on the page. You can also use lists. If you use a list keep it to a non-round number like 10 or 20. Do 9, 14 or 18. Those numbers seem more real because they’re not rounded off to the nearest 10. Include section headers that are bolded or underlined. These can break up a page and allow the reader to absorb the gist of the article quickly.
Include Links — Include 1-3 links to other content on your site if they make sense. You can also include 1-2 links to content outside your site. Both of these linking actions show Google that this content is trying to deliver value to the reader by including links to other content that may further help the reader.
Include A Call To Action — A call to action can be as simple as a pitch for your services with a link to a contact form or a phone number. Or it can be a graphic touting the benefits of a free download or a webinar sign up or anything else that moves a prospect into the sales funnel. This is a great part of an effective lead generation strategy.
Let People Know About Your Post — You should always do a social media post about your blog post, preferably with an image, short but interesting text about the benefit of content to your prospect and a link back to the article. If you can, get people in the office to share on their social accounts, that will really expand the organic social reach of your post.
