Engagement, it’s the goal of every social media post. On twitter you can really ramp up your post engagement with a few proven methods. Follow these tips and your posts will be getting retweeted and will be driving much more traffic to your content.
1) Use Impact Words.
Impact words are strong attention getting words that will interest your followers and make them want to read more. With twitter you don’t have a lot of space, you only get 140 characters including spaces, and I’m going to show you why you should go even shorter in just a bit. So you really need to make the most of every word.
Take a look at the tweet in the infographic. Which is more powerful, “Here’s how to grow business social media followers” or “Here’s how to dramatically grow business social media followers”? One word can make the world of difference.
Impact words get great word ROI. So use them whenever possible. Just make sure you don’t go over the top and make outrageous claims.
2) Use Hashtags.
Hashtags not only help users search for tweets of interest they also stand out in the actual tweet with a highlighted color. So they definitely increase your tweet’s visibility.
Choose words to use in hashtags that appeal to your target audience. If your audience is business owners, hashtag the word business, It helps you target your intended audience.
Don’t be afraid to combine words into one hashtag. Terms like “social media” or “digital marketing” are fine on twitter shortened into one word hashtags.
Tweets with hashtags get twice the engagement as those without. Just don’t over do it. Tweets with 3 or more hashtags see that engagement bonus evaporate.
3) Make Your Tweet A Benefit For Your Followers.
Don’t try to tweet out sales pitches, you will quickly feel the wrath of your followers. Tweet out information that will help your followers solve problems that they have.
You should already have identified your ideal customer persona so you know who you are targeting. As part of that process you should also identify the problems that your product or services can solve for your prospects.
If your tweet solves a problem for your follower, you can bet that they’re going to interact with it.
4) Use An Image.
Tweets with images get double the interaction than those that don’t. You can understand that when you see how Twitter displays the images.
Your image should be something that grabs your followers’ attention and reinforces your benefit.
Try to mix it up with image tweets and you can really have some fun with them as well. An image that grabs attention because it’s a cool picture is great. For a bonus, try adding some big text to the image. Keep it short and impactful.
5) Keep It Short.
Yes I know that 140 characters is very short, but I want you to go shorter!
First, studies have shown that shorter tweets get better engagement. That alone should be enough to motivate you to tighten it up.
Second, you want to give room for retweets. When someone retweets your awesome tweet, you want them to have room to comment on your tweet. If you have used all 140 then they either can’t comment or have to edit your tweet. Neither of which is good for you.
So keep it short and sweet and you’ll have better engagement.
6) Don’t Get Cute
Humor is tricky even for the professionals, aka comedians. So don’t do it. It rarely works and usually it will go horribly wrong.
Stick to delivering helpful benefits for your followers and you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank. Focus on being short clear and helpful and you will do great!
